What Stocktake is all about:

Climate-related disclosures are now mandatory for large Australian businesses. Alongside their annual financial reports, climate-related risks and opportunities must also be included, and this is flowing through supply chains to primary producers. Carbon emissions form part of these disclosures, so getting ahead of carbon accounting now will help Tasmanian beef producers stay competitive as these requirements continue to filter down.

Stocktake is developing practical tools and resources to help the Tasmanian beef sector build confidence and capability in carbon accounting. Through the project, producers can expect to build a better understanding of environmental disclosure requirements and carbon emissions assessments, and grow the confidence to engage with them in ways that support more efficient, strategic decisions on-farm.

The project will also highlight the value of good data capture for climate preparedness and long-term business resilience, and show how "carbon readiness" can improve the way producers use livestock and accounting software.
